PMB081: Money Money Money [28 May 2012|10:57am]

For this week's Project Moonbase podcast DJ Bongo Boy has put together a show especially for your purses and wallets as the crew explore the world of filthy lucre. Listen out for monetary music by Mongo Santamaría, Johnny Gregory & His Orchestra, Wing and 8-bit artist sergeeo, among others. There's also a track from a boggling new two-disc compilation of Klaus Wunderlich’s organ medley albums as well as a particularly sinister version of show favourite "Caravan".

Plus! MC Zirconium tells us all about scratch'n'sniff local newspapers and full-size female mannequin nutcrackers.

PMB080: Mathematics [21 May 2012|04:36pm]

Please open your exercise book, dust off your favourite slide-rule and turn to page 5 of your book of logarithms. In this week's Project Moonbase podcast, your hosts will begin a new course of study with Mathematics.

Listen out for trigonometric music from (among others) The Focus Group, Vic Mars, Bertrand Burgalat, Angelo Michajlov, Susan Cantey and David Lewin as well as a track from Jean-Jacques Perrey’s extremely rare 1962 library music album Musique Electronique du Cosmos and a decidedly non-mathematical version of show favourite "Caravan".

MC Zirconium provides unnecessary news reports on stealth wallpaper and the most realistic robotic ass EVER.

PMB079: Big Cats [14 May 2012|10:58am]

I was recently chewing the fat with DJ Bongo Boy, with Shelly Manne's score to Daktari playing in the background, and I challenged the King Of The Moon to come up with a show all about lions. He felt this was perhaps slightly too niche - so instead this week’s podcast has been turned over to the wider world of big cats. Listen out for - among others - Ananda Shankar, Ivor Raymond and April Stevens on this theme. There's also another version of show favourite "Caravan", this time mambo style!

MC Zirconium tells us about tiny mammoths, underwater hotels and what ZZ Top look like in space.

PMB078: Trousers [08 May 2012|01:44pm]

It’s time to pull on your favourite slacks as the Project Moonbase crew finally deliver on their promise to celebrate the exciting world of the trouser. Almost every track this week is pants-related: listen out for, among others, Viv Stanshall, New Pants, Espanto & Hidrogenesse, Dolly Dolly and Pierre Arvay.

Warning: MC Zirconium's Unnecessary News this week contains nudity!

PMB077: Ceefax vs ZX Spectrum [30 Apr 2012|01:54pm]
PMB077: Ceefax v ZX Spectrum

This week's Project Moonbase podcast is a bittersweet affair as the crew on the one hand notes the imminent demise of Ceefax after 38 years of service (boo!) but on the other, celebrates the joyous news that the ZX Spectrum has reached its 30th anniversary. Good on you, Sir Clive.

Being fans of all forms of obsolete technology, it is only fitting that the show marks these two auspicious moments by playing a selection of tunes which have a connection to one or both. The podcast also features a track from the brand new album by Bertrand Burgalat and a truly bizarre Swiss treatment of show favourite, "Caravan".

Meanwhile, MC Zirconium tells us about penguin theft and Eau de MacBook perfume!

PMB076: Modern Melodies from the Moon [23 Apr 2012|01:13pm]

On this week's podcast, the PMB crew catch up with some recent releases and reissues. Listen out for: a track from the new EP by Giant Claw, an 8-bit cover of an 80s classic, another track from the recent Belbury Poly LP and more from our favourite military style calliope. There's also a couple of tracks from a new collection of recordings by co-founder of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Daphne Oram, new music from Dolphins Into The Future and Laetitia Sadier, plus the welcome return of show favourite "Caravan".

MC Zirconium's unnecessary news includes items on falconry-based crow-control in Japan and miniature pig racing in Devon.

PMB075: Radioactivity [15 Apr 2012|11:22am]

It’s time to put on your lead-lined lounge suit for this particularly dangerous edition of the Project Moonbase podcast, as the crew tackle the controversial topic of atomic power and nuclear fission. Listen out for radioactive tunes by, among others, Jimi Tenor, The Legendary Stardust Cowboy, Señor Coconut and of course that megacorporation General Electric.

Also! Do you eat meat, drive an Audi and phone your mum twice a week? If so, then MC Zirconium may have some exciting news for you!

PMB074: The Rolling Stones at 50 [02 Apr 2012|01:20pm]

On this week's Project Moonbase podcast we send our hearty 50th anniversary best wishes to Mick, Keef, Charlie and the rest of the boys, as we mark 50 years of The Rolling Stones. As regular listeners will know, we try to avoid playing tracks by the artists we are actually featuring. So on the show you’ll hear Stones covers in a range of styles including brass ensemble, bluegrass, electronic, glitch, Eurovision pop, disco and latino soul.

MC Zirconium reports that a paraglider is the ultimate portable aircraft, entirely packing up into a rucksack when not in use! Originally based upon square ram-air parachuting canopies, modern paragliders have ample performance for soaring in the gentle lifting air on windward slopes.

PMB073: Cryptozoology [26 Mar 2012|03:20pm]

This week's Project Moonbase podcast is full of fabulous beasts. The crew has decided to set itself quite a challenge by trying to put together a whole show of tunes relating to that mysterious sphere of study known as cryptozoology.

So if you’ve ever been bothered by yetis, had your pond taken over by fishmen or had trouble with mothmen flapping around your lightbulbs, this is the show for you. And if that's not enough, MC Zirconium's dangerous pursuits this week include golfing in the Korean demilitarized zone and coach tours of the M25.
